Contemporary Philosophy of Science 2018
We would like to invite you to the conference Contemporary Philosophy of Science, organized by the Department of Philosophy of the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE). The conference will take place on 14 September 2018 in the VŠE building on nám. W. Churchilla 1938/4, Praha 3. Our goal is to create a space for meetings of Czech and Slovak experts dealing with topics in which scientific methods and theories are the subject of philosophical reflection, or where philosophical research is enriched by scientific knowledge. The conference will focus on philosophically relevant aspects of the social and behavioral sciences.
Selected papers will be published in the journal Theory of Science, published by the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Centre for Science, Technology, and Society Studies). The journal is indexed, among other, in the Scopus and ERIH Plus databases.
During the conference, we would like to emphasize the following topics:
- Scientific models and their realism, the role of mathematics in the social and behavioral sciences, the relationship between theory and empiricism
- Evolutionary psychology and epistemology
- Rationality as a scientific assumption, empirical limitations of rationality
- Science and normativity, value judgments in science, normative implications of scientific knowledge
- Objectivity of science, scientific paradigms
- Objectives of scientific knowledge: description, prediction, explanation
(An abstract can be sent even if your contribution does not fall directly into these topics.)
